Iztuzu - Caretta Caretta Beach

The coast of İztuzu became world famous thanks to the Caretta Caretta turtles. On one side of the coast are the İztuzu beach facilities and on the other side are the Dalyanağzı day-outing beach facilities. This beautiful coast goes on for kilometers on end. İztuzu beach can be reached by road from Dalyan. There are daily excursions from Marmaris by boat or bus.

The asphalt road, which starts from Dalyan, follows the delta along the Sülüngür coast, passing a number of villages, and finishes at the beach. There are suitable places high enough to take photographs as one gets closer to the beach. This panorama includes all of the delta and the coast. Boats leaving from Dalyan can reach the Dalyanağzı beach at the opening of Dalyan. The Caretta Caretta turtles come to the beach on the İztuzu coast to lay their eggs.

At the İztuzu and Dalyanağzı beach facilities behind the coast there are cabins and food and drink outlets to serve beach goers. Beach umbrellas can be hired as well. However, there are measures taken to make sure these umbrellas do not cause damage to the turtle eggs. You can get to the Dalyanağzı beach from the channel by taking one of the always operating boats. A small natural channel that links the lake to the sea divides the coast from beginning to end. After entering the sea and sunbathing on the sand one can have a shower using the freshwater of the lake just on the other side. The opportunity to bath in both the sea and in a lake is most refreshing. İztuzu, quite apart from the Caretta Caretta turtles, is simply a wonderful gift of nature. There is magnificent scenery of in a type seen in labyrinths, with the 5.4 kilometre along coast going round and round the marshes. Here we should remind our readers again that on the coast around Dalyan during all seasons the turtles ranging up to one metre in length can be seen. These turtles, of the Nile species, are no relation to the Caretta Caretta variety. They have nails on their feet and feed on fish.
